The Counter List includes any books I couldn't reject outright because they discuss topics not well-represented elsewhere in my list, but which I also strongly disagree with in some way I think must be clearly acknowledged.
I want to make it clear that just because I disagreed with something fundamental in books listed here doesn't mean they are not incredibly valuable reads! I think exposing yourself to things that are of some level of quality and which you disagree with in a way that can open your mind is a good thing.

Discusses the trap women who wish to be both parents and career women find themselves in.
Exposes the true costs of the rich hiring the poor to do their domestic labour, which is often seen uncritically as a way of helping them but also leads to their exploitation.
COUNTER:
The author is never really able to transcend her own privileged circumstances. Her ideas are interesting but her story is not one that many would relate to directly. She makes a vague attempt to cover this weakness by seeking the stories of the women she hires, who wisely sidestep this blatantly inappropriate abuse of her power.
She identifies the man in her situation as a substantial problem only by coincidence, without any apparant awareness that this is what she is showing. I think it's impossible to have a well-rounded discussion of this topic without really exploring the role of a good or bad partner.
